Ukrainian-Polish project "Lyme Borreliosis: epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment"

We aim to assess epidemiologic situation concerning Lyme disease (borreliosis) in several regions of Ukraine and to significantly improve its diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infection using a comprehensive survey of patients and risk groups, the introduction of new methods of diagnosis, improved treatment, taking into account antibiotic sensitivity of the pathogen and development of rehabilitation, primary and secondary prevention measures.

Outcome targets. Medical: Developed guidelines for differential diagnosis using clinical, virologic, serologic and other methods, as well as improved treatment of patients with different clinical forms and stages of borreliosis; prevented chronic forms and complications; developed and implemented preventive and rehabilitation measures.

Social: Improved early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of borreliosis in residents of the endemic regions, including Ternopil region; improved quality of life in patients with chronic borreliosis using medical, physical, psychological and social rehabilitation; carried out health education activities.

Economic: Borreliosis is recognized as an occupational disease of forest workers and other risk groups, allowing to introduce preventive measures that will help reduce the incidence and reduce the rate of temporary and permanent disability.
